Extending Gratitude to Sr. Celeste Trahan & Sr. Kathleen Howard
As you may have heard, two beloved members of the SMMC family will be bidding us farewell next month – Sr. Celeste Trahan, CCVI, Vice President of Mission Integration, and Sr. Kathleen Howard, CCVI, Patient Ambassador in the Emergency Department (ED).Sr. Celeste and Sr. Kathleen have been missioned back to their Congregation’s (The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word) Motherhouse in Houston, Texas and their last day will be Friday, June 11.
Sr. Celeste was first missioned to SMMC in 1986 as Mission Effectiveness Coordinator and then returned in 2015, when she began her ministry in SMMC Foundation. A few months later, she transitioned to her current role as VP of Mission Integration, leaving an everlasting impact on patients, staff members, and the communities we serve. In all her work, Sr. Celeste ministered with a profound combination of selflessness and love, as she exemplified the Sisters of Charity's calling to care for those suffering.
Sr. Kathleen began her ministry at SMMC in November of 2015. As Patient Ambassador, she enhanced the patient care experience by providing compassionate, service-oriented support to those entering the hospital through the ED. She used her skills and knowledge to facitliate the resolution of patient relations issues as they related to communication between staff, the patients and their families. While volunteering her time in the ED, Sr. Kathleen's interaction with staff helped them to integrate their care, all while being mindful of their commitment to have a person-centered approach to each patient seeking help, thus creating a more healing environment. She showed by example how to advocate for the poor and vulnerable, so that respect for all was emphasized in word and action.
We thank Sr. Celeste and Sr. Kathleen tremendously for their dedication, service, leadership, and their embodiment of humankindness day in and day out. The absence felt by them both will be felt by all whose lives they touched.
